Income inequality in Russia has almost reached the levels of 2021
March 7th. /MEDIA TALK/. By the end of 2024, the Gini index, which characterizes the income disparity between citizens, rose to 0.408, an increase from 0.405 in 2023 (which corresponds to an increase from 40.5% to 40.8%).

This is reported by RBC with reference to Rosstat data. Over the past year, the income ratio between the wealthiest and least affluent citizens (the fund ratio) has increased. It has now reached a value of 15.1 compared to 14.8 a year earlier.

In 2024, both indices almost coincide with the parameters of 2021, designated as "pre-sanctions", where the Gini index was 0.409 and the fund ratio was 15.2.

This indicates the gradual adaptation of the Russian economy to the changed circumstances, although the issue of social differentiation remains relevant.

In December 2024, the average monthly salary of Russians reached its highest level in the last 16 years, increasing by 21.9% year-on-year.
