According to RBC, referring to the database of arbitration cases, the largest claim in the amount of 436.4 million rubles was filed against the united network Formula Cinema and Cinema Park. In addition, the organization is suing for 71.6 million rubles against the Karo cinemas, 176 million rubles against Kinomax and 26 million rubles against Cinema Star.
According to sources familiar with the circumstances of the case, the claims relate to the rental debts of Sony Pictures films created before the termination of its activities in the Russian Federation. These films remained at the box office due to the shortage of fresh releases in the domestic media market.

Recall that in the spring of 2022, leading foreign film companies such as Walt Disney, Warner Brothers, Sony Entertainment, Universal Studios and Paramount Pictures announced that they would stop working in the Russian market. This action caused a significant reduction in the film repertoire, depriving the Russian distribution of major hits and premieres. The lack of new materials forced cinemas to re-show already known films, which later led to legal disputes.
Earlier, we told you that according to the Ministry of Culture, in 2024, every fifth Russian film that received state funding was able to return costs or earn money at the box office.
